Field Force Extrication Training 2021

Field Force Extrication Tactics (FFE) is a three-day course that provides students with the knowledge and skills to operate the tools necessary to extricate individuals safely from protester devices while reducing liability and ensuring due process. Responders receive instruction in protest situations, legal considerations, responsibilities of extrication teams, and extrication techniques required to defeat protester devices. The course culminates in a series of hands-on activities that allow responders to practice the learned skills (operating extrication tools, defeating protester devices, and communicating with other students while operating power tools) in a realistic context. This training is provided by FEMA - Center for Domestic Preparedness.

Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program:

• Recognizing the purpose of protester devices and identifying the various types of locking protester devices used in civil actions.
• Explaining legal issues as they relate to the use of and the extrication of individuals from protester devices and outlining the responsibilities of extrication team members.
• Distinguishing the roles and responsibilities of the extrication team from other law enforcement assets.
• Operating tools used to extricate an individual from protester devices and demonstrating methods of extricating an individual from protester devices.

Target Audience/Disciplines: Police Officers, Firefighters, Medical Personnel, and other responders who require training and practice in the extrication of protesters from devices.

Prerequisites: It is recommended that candidates have successfully completed awareness training for CBRNE response through Standardized Awareness Authorized Training Program (AW-160) or another certified awareness training program; ICS (IS) 100: Introduction to the Incident Command System; ICS (IS) 200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents; ICS 300: Intermediate IC; and IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS): Introduction.

Class Size:  20 Students minimum, 24 maximum. 

Material/ Equipment: Each student is required to bring note taking material. (pen and legal pad)

Cost Per Student:  Free tuition with lunch included, grant funded by Region 7 Homeland Security.

Lodging: NMLETG special rate available at the Days Inn or Ramada Inn of Grayling, includes breakfast.
